How to Compare Pet Travel Costs

Use the same route, mode and included services in each quote.

Updated: 2026-10-11

Define the same journey

Give each provider the species, breed, age, pet weight, external carrier measurements, route and travel dates. State whether the quote is for cabin, accompanied hold or independent cargo. A small cabin fee cannot be directly compared with cargo including collection, customs handling and delivery.

Ask what is included

Request separate lines for airline carriage, carrier purchase, veterinary appointments, tests, official endorsement, permits, quarantine and local handling. DAFF explicitly notes permit and quarantine charges; cargo may require a specialist booking party. Ask which costs are estimates and which remain payable if entry or transport is refused.

Record the terms

Keep the currency, taxes, validity date, cancellation terms and confirmed service scope with the quote. A fare estimate is not acceptance of the pet. Requote after changing aircraft, route, carrier size or dates, and keep the pet reservation linked to the passenger or cargo booking.
