Canada Pet Import Requirements

Age and owner accompaniment change the document pathway.

Documents and identification

Cat · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage / Separate cargo service

For domestic cats aged three months or older, CFIA lists an English or French veterinary certificate with clear identification and an accepted rabies basis: current vaccination, qualifying residence in a designated rabies-free country, or the specified antibody-test pathway. Confirm which alternative applies; do not assume all three are required.

Documents and identification

Dog · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage / Separate cargo service

For dogs aged eight months or older, a valid English or French rabies vaccination certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian, clearly identifying the dog and showing current vaccination, is one accepted document pathway. CFIA also lists alternatives; younger dogs and commercial movements follow distinct provisions.

Check the applicable procedure

Dog · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage / Separate cargo service

If a personal pet dog under eight months travels without its owner, CFIA specifies an additional veterinary certificate, health and vaccination conditions, and entry within 72 hours of the recorded examination. Do not apply the owner-accompanied puppy procedure to this case.
