Flying with Pets: Cabin, Hold or Cargo

Compare the service before comparing the limits.

Updated: 2026-10-11

Travelling in the cabin

A cabin pet normally remains in an approved carrier in the passenger compartment under the airline’s conditions. The published cabin weight limits for Lufthansa and Iberia include the carrier. A weight match does not confirm a booking.

Accompanied hold baggage

This is handled under the passenger airline’s baggage policy, with separate carrier, route and booking restrictions. For example, Lufthansa’s published policy excludes pet hold transport when connecting through Munich. Confirm every segment.

Cargo is a separate enquiry

Do not treat “no cabin service” as proof that cargo is available. Ask the actual cargo operator about routing, acceptance and documents. This edition does not compare cargo products, so cargo fields remain unconfirmed.
