Pet Travel Transit and Entry Requirements

Follow the animal’s actual airport handling, not only your ticket.

Updated: 2026-10-11

Map the handover

Ask whether the carrier stays in transit, whether you collect and recheck the pet, and whether cargo clearance is involved. Passenger airside transit does not prove that the animal remains outside import controls. A change of terminal, airline or transport mode may require a different handover and document process.

Verify every operating segment

Some checked-pet services exclude connections or interline transfers. China Southern’s baggage page states no connecting transport; Air China states no interline pet service. ANA asks travellers to check transit documentation, including Japanese airport connections. Confirm the actual itinerary with each carrier before reserving.

Recheck after changes

A delay may move arrival outside an inspection office’s hours or a treatment window. A reroute may introduce another jurisdiction. Keep the original plan and a revised document list, then ask whether the existing pet booking, certificate and quarantine slot remain valid for the new itinerary.
