Every dog/cat needs a Veterinary Import Permit from Biosecurity. Apply with animal particulars, microchip and vaccine records; the guide describes issuance within seven working days after complete information, valid one month from intended arrival. After obtaining it, request the Finance Ministry import permit for clearance. Do not ship before written permission and compliance.

Use English or French documents. Other languages require an English/French translation signed and stamped by the exporting veterinary authority. Supply owner address, intended import month, species, breed, sex, age, name, description, microchip and vaccination records in the application.

At least two weeks before departure: cats need panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis and calicivirus; dogs need distemper, parvovirus, infectious hepatitis and leptospirosis. Rabies follows the separate origin-dependent section and is not assigned this generic two-week interval.

Dogs need accredited-laboratory blood testing for Brucella canis, Trypanosoma evansi, Babesia gibsoni, Leishmania and Ehrlichia canis using the guide’s disease-specific methods. A particular test can be omitted only with an endorsed official-veterinarian attestation that the exporting country is free of that disease; do not infer freedom from a country name.

Travel as manifest cargo in an IATA container, preferably direct or on an approved scheduled flight, without contact with other animals en route. Reconfirm quarantine booking at least two weeks before arrival and confirm arrival twenty-four hours before entry. Veterinary collection at the airport and cargo/customs formalities must be arranged.

All arriving animals have at least fourteen days of quarantine regardless of origin rabies status. The rabies-history branch specifies at least four weeks, and non-compliance may cause longer quarantine or return. Reserve Mahé’s facility and submit the signed indemnity: scan with application and original at the station. Fourteen days is not a promised release date.

Applicable conditions
For rabies-affected origins the guide requires a valid inactivated vaccine given from three months of age, blood at least thirty days after vaccination, a titre strictly greater than 0.5 IU as printed, testing no more than six months before departure and travel at least three months after sampling; it also specifies booster timing and at least four weeks of quarantine. Current origin classification, laboratory units and the actual permit pathway remain to confirm. These conditional numbers are not automatically imposed on every origin.

The guide permits breeds in principle but requires certain dog breeds and crosses in its Annex 1 to be surgically sterilized, with an endorsed certificate copy for the permit and original on arrival.
